It’s time to focus on yourself.

I’m a mom, and I’m also a doctor. Throughout my career, I learned that self-care is never selfish. It’s necessary! Mothers are the backbone of our society, and the heart of their families, and I want to make sure you know just how much you matter. How you feel about what you are doing - at home and at work - really matters. Our attitudes are so important to our family’s wellbeing. That’s why I write this newsletter.

In Moms Matter, I’ll be writing weekly about the unique challenges and rewards of motherhood. I draw from my personal experience as a mom of three and from my many years of caring for preterm and sick newborns as a neonatologist in the NICU. My little patients all had mothers who wanted to talk about their struggles. We moms share so many challenges, feelings, and experiences.

When moms are happy, fulfilled, and healthy, everyone else in their family benefits. Many motherhood challenges seem to be universal. How we meet those challenges depends on how we manage the things we can control.

Testimonial: "I think Susan Landers is a fantastic advocate for working moms. Her observations and fund of knowledge are an accurate reflection of my own experience in the workplace. I am hopeful her words will help moms who are working now.” Sincerely, Karen G. Swenson, MD, ACOG

I’ll be sharing tips on how to take care of yourself, both physically and emotionally. In the past, I experienced two episodes of burnout in my career - one in my early forties, after the birth of my third child - and another at age 62, before I retired from my neonatology practice.

I also plan to answer your questions and discuss your concerns during a monthly Q&A session to “Ask me Anything.” So, if you’re a mom who’s looking for a supportive community, this is the place for you.

Subscribe today, and let’s start a conversation about how to empower you and other moms and make the world a better place for everyone.

After I retired (when I finally had some free time) I wrote and published a memoir called “So Many Babies” and it can be found here. In this memoir I tell stories about NICU moms that inspired me, and I also share about my personal life as a mom. If you’ve experienced the NICU with your little ones, you will love this book!
