Ah her story sounds a lot like my little brother (ADHD, naturally musical, good with kids, possibly borderline, tons of anxiety, wrecked cars and bad grades in high school despite being really smart) but he is currently struggling with severe addiction at 42. My parents gave up on him, completely baffled how to raise him. I was the people pleaser so they had it easy with me, he was a whole different ball of wax.
You have to wonder about the difference in sibs growing up in the same household. My older daughter is the people pleaser, and still tries to help her sister. There must be a huge genetic influence, since my kids think I have ADHD, but I think it is that different brain wiring that dyslexia and ADHD kids have. I refuse to give up, still.
Yes. Genetics and epigenetics. I also was going to mention he was a preemie born around 32 weeks, which back then was pretty early (right…?) and he had a lot of health issues when he was young. I remember one SIDS-like incident too
Thanks for sharing, very powerful read! My mom's brother had undiagnosed ADHD and sleep apnea, which caused him to wreck 2 cars as a teenager, since he fell asleep at the wheel. He got a job as a teenager but was so very detail-orientated, and micromanaging (he is the opposite of impulsive) that his coworkers found his car in the parking lot and slashed his tires! Unfortunately, not diagnosed until late 30s or 40s I think? But he does a lot better with meds.
I feel for you😥 I have to have hope that things will improve for my 16 year old adopted girl with ADHD! Looking forward to part 2
